How prayer times are calculated in South Africa
Timetables for daily prayers in South Africa rely on calculation guidelines from the Egyptian General Authority of Survey. The standard designates Fajr when the sun is positioned 19.5° below the eastern horizon, and Isha when it reaches 17.5° below the western horizon. The Asr prayer interval begins according to the standard shadow rule, defined when an object’s shadow reaches the length of the object itself plus its minimum shadow at midday.
South Africa observes a single uniform time zone without any seasonal daylight saving adjustments, and each individual city page shows its local time. Our database features 28 South African cities, including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria, and Soweto. Tailored prayer schedules alongside the exact Qibla direction are determined from each municipality’s distinct latitude and longitude coordinates.
