How prayer times are calculated in India
Daily prayer schedules across India follow the parameters established by the University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi. Under this calculation method, Fajr commences when the sun dips to 18° below the eastern horizon at dawn, and Isha begins once the twilight recedes to 18° below the western horizon at nightfall. Asr is determined according to the standard jurisprudence rule, where the time starts when an object’s shadow equals its own height in addition to its shadow at solar noon.
The entire nation operates within a single time zone, Indian Standard Time (UTC+5:30), with no daylight saving adjustments observed. Each municipal entry presents real-time local hours for its area. Our guide features 152 Indian cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad. Timings and the precise Qibla bearing are computed independently for each locality using its exact geographic coordinates.
